What is Arc Welding Machine?

Arc Welding Machine

An arc welding machine is a device used to join two metal pieces together by using electric current. It creates an electric arc (spark) between a metal electrode and the workpiece. This arc produces very high heat, which melts the metal and allows the parts to fuse strongly after cooling.

Arc welding is one of the most commonly used welding methods in workshops, factories, and construction sites because it is simple to use, cost-effective, and reliable for industrial applications.

How Does an Arc Welding Machine Work?

  • The welding machine supplies electric current.
  • When the electrode touches the metal surface, an electric arc is created.
  • The arc generates very high heat, around 6000°C.
  • This heat melts the electrode and the base metal.
  • The molten metal cools down and forms a strong weld joint.

The electrode is coated with flux, which produces protective gas and slag. This protects the weld from air contamination and improves weld strength.

Types of Arc Welding Machines

  • Transformer Arc Welding Machine – Heavy, durable, and suitable for rough industrial use.
  • IGBT Inverter Arc Welding Machine – Lightweight, energy efficient, and provides stable welding.

Applications of Arc Welding Machine

  • Fabrication workshops
  • Construction and infrastructure projects
  • Industrial maintenance work
  • Metal gates, grills, and structural welding

Advantages of Arc Welding Machine

  • Easy to operate and maintain
  • Low equipment cost
  • Suitable for outdoor welding
  • Strong and durable weld joints
